Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Josephine "Jo" Mary Magdeleno Hernandez, 81, of Grandview went to be in the arms of her Savior on Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, surrounded by her family.

Jo was born Jan. 12, 1931 in Riverbank, Calif., the daughter of Jose Gutierrez and Nellie Pauline (Francisco) Hernandez. She received her elementary education in Escalon, Calif. and later graduated from San Jose High School with the class of 1949.

On March 6, 1955 she married Estanislado Hernandez in San Jose, Calif. The Hernandez family moved to Sunnyside in 1961, where Jo worked in the quality control department at Independent Foods for more than 20 years. She also worked as a store clerk, nurse's aide and at the Granger senior food bank.

Jo volunteered at the Granger Food Bank and at the Granger Cherry Festival, making breakfast burritos and coffee.

She was a member and the president of the Sunnyside Apostolic Women's Auxiliary and was also the Northwest District Apostolic secretary from 1969 to 1971 and served as president from 1971 to 1973 and with the Granger Lions club.

She and Estanislado were directors of "Edad-de Oro" in 2005.

Jo is survived by her loving husband, Estanislado Hernandez Pinales of Grandview; her children, Debbie (Louie) Hernandez Pulido of San Jose, Dan (Marie) Hernandez of Grandview and Dina (Clem) Hernandez Navejar of Pasco; 13 grandchildren; 18 great- grandchildren; two sisters, Rebecca Gillespie of San Jose and Mary Flores of Modesto, Calif.; one brother, Daniel Hernandez of Santa Clara, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose Gutierrez Hernandez and Nellie Pauline Hernandez; and one son, Robert Joel Hernandez.

Viewing and visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012, from 4 to 8 p.m., with an evening service at 6 p.m. at the Apostolic Assembly of The Faith in Christ Jesus in Sunnyside. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the Apostolic Assembly of The Faith in Christ Jesus in Sunnyside, with burial to follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside.
