On Feb. 14, voters in the Sunnyside School District have the opportunity to vote on a proposed school levy. I'd like to explain why supporting this levy is a good thing to do.
It's important to understand that this levy will help support our local schools in many ways, like helping to purchase supplies, update technology, help fund advanced placement programs, and support fine arts and sports. For these reasons alone, supporting the levy is a good idea because it enhances education in Sunnyside.
It does something more than that, though. It actually SAVES the taxpayers money. The reason for that is because we use the levy money to pay off the bond we sold recently to fund the high school remodel project. As long as the state continues to support levy equalization, we will continue to pay off the bond with this levy money. In the end, it means that your property tax bill is actually LESS if the levy passes than if it fails!
I hope you will join me in supporting the Sunnyside School District levy on Feb. 14. It's a great way to show that we love our kids.
