Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend David C. Martinez went to be in the arms of his Savior on Monday, Jan. 16, 2012 at Yakima Regional Hospital.

Dave was born July 10, 1953, the son of Cecil and Eleanor (Antunez) Martinez.

He received his education in Moses Lake and Prosser, graduating with the Class of 1972. In 1975, Dave completed basic training at Fort Benning, Ga., and served in the reserves at the Yakima Firing Center. In 1984, he received his officer's schooling at Fort Lewis. After serving a number of years he was honorably discharged as a captain in the United States Army.

Dave enjoyed working the past 28 years at the Grandview Public Works Department. He was a member of the Grandview Church of the Nazarene. Dave was the President of the He-Man Woman Hater's Club. To say that Dave enjoyed sports would be an understatement. He was a volunteer and coach for the Grandview Parks & Recreation Department and AAU for many years, where he coached his children, Julie and Dante. He cherished and was so proud for all the years watching them participate in their sporting activities. Dave was one of Grandview and Prosser's finest fans, attending many home and away games. He loved watching and supporting his granddaughter, Cammy competing in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling tournaments. He was her number one fan.

Papa Dave loved all of his grandchildren with all of his heart. He also loved everything old, from music to movies, except for his recent purchase of a red with black stripes, 2010 Dodge R-T Challenger with a hemi engine. Dave also enjoyed the outdoors, family holidays, telling a joke or pulling a prank on someone. And last but not least was a great Washington Husky fan.

Dave is survived by his wife, Carolyne Diane Martinez of Grandview; one daughter, Julie (Rich) Guerin of Yakima; one son, Dante Martinez of Prosser; two step-daughters, Tina and Sheena Ritter, both of Wenatchee; six grandchildren, Grayson, Cammy (Little Mamas), Destiny (Dezi), Zeke, Danika (Wow Wow) and Connor; his mother, Eleanor Antunez; four sisters: Alice Alexander of Prosser, Elizabeth (Danny) Hernandez of Yakima, Rosie (Jeff) Brown of Prosser and Josie Molina of Arizona; one brother, Frank Vacaneri of Arizona; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his canine companion, Priscilla Mae.

He is preceded in death by his father, Cecil; two brothers, Daniel and Ezekiel, and three sisters, Yolanda, Rachel and Rosalie.

Viewing and visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Grandview. Under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, funeral services will be Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012 at the Grandview Church of the Nazarene at 2 p.m. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in East Wenatchee, Monday, Jan. 23, 2012 at 2:00 pm.
