Attempted murder charge formally filed

YAKIMA - The Yakima County Prosecutor's office has formally charged Manuel Angel Torres, 29, of Sunnyside with attempted murder second degree.

He has also been charged with "assault first degree in the alternative, deadly weapon, domestic violence," said Yakima County Prosecutor Steve Jackson.

The charges stem from an incident on Jan. 8 during which Torres was accused of stabbing multiple times the mother of his two-year-old child.

The victim drove herself to Sunnyside Community Hospital and told Sunnyside police Torres stabbed her at a location near South 16th Street and Yakima Valley Highway.

Torres fled the scene of the alleged assault, but was apprehended in Yakima the following day.

His next appearance in Yakima County Superior Court is scheduled for next Thursday, Jan. 26, during which time Torres will be arraigned.
