Thank you, Sunnyside, for donating the gift of life to so many this past year.
Our Sunnyside American Red Cross blood drive collections for 2011 amounted to 358 pints. Each pint is separated into three life saving units. If my math is correct (and being married to a retired math teacher it better be perfect) our total contribution saved 975 lives. Equally exciting, we gained 16 first-time donors in 2011.
These collections don't just happen. Many people are involved in the process and deserve our gratitude. Our collection sites for 2011 were donated by the Sunnyside United Methodist Church and the Sunnyside Masonic Temple. Our volunteer registrars were Myrtis Lang, Ann Bardell, Sue Ellen Davis, Janet Schuler and Mary Werkhoven. Our sponsors who operated the canteen with lots of delicious goodies and friendly faces were the Sunnyside Kiwanis, Sunnyside Soroptimist, AmericanWest Bank, Yakima Valley Dairy Women, the Miss Sunnyside candidates, Preceptor Gamma Phi, the Sunnyside High School Key Club and Sun Terrace Assisted Living. Thank you all for a great year.
We are excited about 2012. We will be operating one collection site at the Sunnyside United Methodist Church. On alternate months, we will be at Navarro's Community Center on the corner of Sixth and Franklin. All collection dates will fall on the last Thursday afternoon of each month (with a few exceptions) and run from 1 to 6 p.m.
To avoid wasting our donors' time, we encourage all donors to make appointments and try to appear within 15 minutes of these appointments. The number to call for appointments is 1-800-RED CROSS (733-2767). Please bring some form of ID with you to the collection site.
