Maria Cepeda, 87, of Mabton passed on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at her home.

She was born Aug. 25, 1924 in Gonzales, Texas, the daughter of Eligio and Emiliana (Flores) Rosales.

On April 20, 1951 she married Francisco B. Cepeda in Musquiez Coah. Mexico.

Maria worked for Yakima Chief Ranch and also for Washington Migrant Council Head Start and catered for special events.

She enjoyed cooking, knitting and gardening. She cherished time with family and loved to travel.

She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mabton.

Maria is survived by five children, Lilia (Abelino) Gomez of Mabton, Gloria Cepeda of Lawton, Okla., Maria (Patrick) Rose of Seattle, Francisca Gonzalez of Kent and Eligio (Daisy) Cepeda of Colorado Springs, Colo.; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Tomas Rosales of Austin, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francisco B. Cepeda in 1985; and one daughter, Maria Francisco Cepeda in 1955.

Viewing and visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, from 2 to 8 p.m., with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Concepcion Catholic Church in Mabton, with burial to follow at Mabton Cemetery.
