Raul "Rudy" Torres Ortiz, 58, of Grandview passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012.
Rudy was born April 14, 1953 in Mercedes, Texas to Jesus and Angelina Torres Ortiz.
He married Dana Aguirre Ortiz on Jan. 21, 1977 in Sunnyside. Dana and Rudy were married for 35 great wonderful years.
Rudy attended Sunnyside schools and later graduated from Perry Tech in 1975.
He was a truck driver for LTI of Sunnyside for 17 years. When he wasn't working, his favorite pastimes were watching John Wayne western movies and working on his cars.
He cherished time visiting his mother and family, listening to the oldies and taking road trips.
Rudy was a member of the Classic Knights Mopar Car Club.
Rudy was a wonderful husband and son. He was the best father, a caring and generous brother and a great-uncle and friend.
He was very proud of his family. His children thought the world of him. He will be forever missed.
Rudy is survived by his wife, Dana of Grandview; one son, Nicholas (Jennifer) Ortiz of Battleground; two daughters, Jennafer (Austin) Gautreaux of Redmond and Jessica (Brandon) Gowan of Grandview; one grandson he adored, "Baby Austin;" his mother, Angelina Ortiz of Sunnyside; brothers, Larry Ortiz of Grandview, Rene Ortiz and Jaime Ortiz, both of Sunnyside and Michael (Maryanne) Ortiz of Yakima; sisters, Lupe Richardson and Maggie Murray, both of Grandview, Rosie Courtier of Lynnwood, Olivia (Jesse) Cruz of Kennewick and Ilda (Ruben) Robles of Sunnyside; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jesus Ortiz.
Viewing and visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, from 5 to 8 p.m., with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sunnyside, with burial to follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside.
