Lawrence "Larry" Edwin Hicks, 89, of Sunnyside passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, in Sunnyside.
Larry was born April 5, 1922 in Pasco, the son of Callie T. and Elizabeth Mae (Kinney) Hicks.
Larry graduated from Waitsburg High School with the class of 1940.
Larry served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945.
On Jan. 6, 1945 he married Ruby (Bette) Luth in San Jose, Calif.
Larry worked as a laborer/foreman for J.A. Jones at Hanford until he retired in 1984.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, bowling and playing a card game called "Happy" at family reunions. He also loved to laugh and joke around.
Larry was a member of the Sunnyside Presbyterian Church.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Ruby (Bette) E. Hicks of Sunnyside; his children, April Flansburg and Robert (Jenny) Hicks, all of Sunnyside and Merrylee Celius; daughter-in-law, Susan Hicks; nine grandchildren, Gary and Fred Flansburg, Tina, Trisha and Trena Hicks, Lorrie and Patrick Hicks and Traci and Oscar Celius; 23 great-grandchildren; and five great-great- grandchildren; and four sisters, Violet (Clyde) Whitney and Nellie (Gerald) Voss, all of Warden, Mickey (Richard) Hancock of Prosser and Jenny (Bill) Underwood of West Richland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Callie T. and Elizabeth (Mae) Hicks; one son, Theodore (Ted) Hicks; and three sisters, Betty Browning, Ellen Withers and Pearl Farnworth.
Viewing and visitation will be held Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, from noon to 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Private family interment will be held Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, at noon at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside, with funeral services to follow at 1 p.m. at Sunnyside Presbyterian Church.
