BICKLETON - The Bickleton girls basketball squad hoped to repeat a win over the visiting Klickitat squad this past Saturday.
But their hopes failed with a 36-28 loss, despite Jamie Venema's double-double efforts of 14 points and 14 rebounds.
The first quarter began with Bickleton trailing by four, 10-6. In the second quarter the Lady Pirates gained momentum with a 12-point run, taking the lead 18-12.
The Klickitat Vandals stole the lead in the third quarter, however, 27-20. Bickleton attempted to regain control in the fourth, but Coach Emily Barnhart said shots from the field were "only about 5 percent" accurate at this past weekend's game.
The game ended with an 8-point Bickleton effort that fell short of Klickitat's 9-point run in the fourth quarter. The Vandals pulled out on top, leaving the scoreboard grim for Bickleton, 36-28.
The Lady Pirates (2-3, 4-5) will host a make-up game against Sunnyside Christian tonight (Monday).
