Two Sunnyside residents suffer injuries in crash

YAKIMA - An early Sunday morning auto accident resulted in two Sunnyside residents sustaining injuries that required hospitalization.

The two-vehicle crash occurred yesterday, July 1, at about 7:35 a.m. on SR-24, about 19 miles east of Yakima.

Washington State Patrol officials say the unknown driver of a 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier that was eastbound on SR-24 steered his vehicle onto the right shoulder of the highway. The motorist over-corrected in getting the Cavalier back onto the roadway, crossing the west bound lane and in the process the car collided with a westbound 1997 Chevrolet Malibu.

The Malibu was being driven by 31-year-old Luis A. Preciado-Silva of Sunnyside. Both he and a passenger in his vehicle, Enedina Fernandez-Farias, 54, of Sunnyside, suffered injuries and were transported to Yakima's Regional Hospital.

Both vehicles were totaled as a result of the collision.
