MABTON - Mabton High School has released the names of the academic achievers representing the top 10 percent of the 68 students in the class of 2012.
The valedictorian is Jaqueline Cruz. Daughter of Amelia and Jose Cruz, she is the second of six children. She plans to attend Eastern Washington University this fall and major in nursing.
Throughout high school Cruz was involved in volleyball, wrestling, cheer, softball and the ACE club and was the associated student body secretary.
Salutatorian of the class is Marlen Chavez, daughter of Maria and Santos Chavez. She will be attending Eastern Washington University this fall and plans to major in sociology and science.
Throughout her high school career Chavez participated in soccer, wrestling, softball and ACE club and was the ASB president.
Karen Mendoza is third in the class of 2012. Her parents are Jose A. and Norma Mendoza. She plans to attend WSU this fall and major in pre-med. She was involved in Connex and FFA throughout her high school career.
Isabela Ahumada, daughter of Hector and Teresa Ahumada, is fourth in the class. Her activities during high school included volleyball, wrestling, cheer and softball. She will be attending the University of Washington and majoring in health sciences
Jazzee Sustaita's parents are Jesus and Shandee Sustaita. Ranked with the fifth highest GPA in her class, her activities in high school included volleyball, basketball, softball and FFA. She will be attending Eastern Washington University and majoring in physical therapy.
Eric Huesca rounds out the top six. His parents are Cecilia Martinez and Felix Rojas. His participation in high school included football, wrestling, band and FFA. He will be attending Eastern Washington University and majoring in business.
Graduation is 7 p.m. tonight (Friday) at Mabton High School's Mel Todd Gymnasium.
