Soccer league dispute with city discussed at council workshop

The Sunnyside City Council met Monday night for a workshop meeting and discussed the usage of Sunnyview Park's soccer fields.

At the last regular council meeting on May 28, Jose Luis Vasquez of the Nezahual Coyotl soccer league that rents a field in the park, spoke to the council about his contract with the city to use Sunnyview Park. He claimed the city had imposed unfair restrictions on his league.

The council asked him to write up his concerns and added him to the June 4 workshop agenda. The council did not receive any documentation from Vasquez prior to last night's meeting as they requested.

The result was a difficult meeting as Vasquez accused the city of treating him unfairly and accused a city employee of mistranslating during discussions about the usage of the park.

The council referred the problem back to City Manager Frank Sweet and suggested Vasquez bring his own translator for the next meeting with the city.
