Summer Blast 2012 planned for June 23

PROSSER - Sunnyside's Neighborhood Church Assemblies of God is sponsoring an event for the entire family Saturday, June 23, at Prosser's Crawford Park.

Summer Blast 2012 includes a bass fishing tournament, a motorcycle show, a pie making contest, a community picnic, activities for youngsters and a free concert.

All the scheduled events are free, with the exception of the bass fishing tournament.

The cost to enter the tournament is $50 with a $20 big fish option, according to Pastor James Castillo. Pre-registration for the tournament is also required with a limit of 30 teams.

Prizes for the top six fishermen include trophies and cash awards. The top prize is $500. The runner-up will be awarded $350 and the third place angler will receive $200. Those with catches earning fourth through sixth place honors will be awarded up to $175 each.

The fishing action begins at 4 a.m.

The motorcycle show is free to enter and participants are urged to arrive with entries at 11 a.m. Trophies and other prizes will be awarded.

"They just have to show up," Castillo said of entries.

The pie making contest begins at 1 p.m. Participants are encouraged to bring their best pies, which will be judged at 2 p.m. There is no entry fee.

From noon to 7 p.m. a Kids Zone will be open, featuring a bouncy house with a slide, water balloons, bracelet making and many other activities.

At 2 and 4 p.m. the Prosser Fire Department is scheduled to arrive with a fire truck. Anyone wishing to cool off can take advantage of the opportunity as firemen let loose with one of the water hoses on the truck.

A community picnic will begin at noon.

Weighing of fish caught in the bass tournament will be at 3 p.m.

At 5 p.m. there will be a barbecue dinner. The menu will include hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans and potato salad.

Live music will be featured throughout the day and at 7 p.m. a worship service is scheduled.

Castillo said, "Just bring your appetite to the picnic."

Food and beverages will be provided free of charge to all attending the event.

Cities Outcry, Avery and Life Light will be performing during the picnic. Castillo said the groups include a combination of several local artists.

Crawford Park is located near the former Twin City Foods plant.

Anyone seeking further details or wishing to register for the June 23 bass tournament is urged to call Castillo at 509-305-3155 or visit Neighborhood Church's website (www.neighborhoodchurch.org).
