OBITUARY

FRIEDA BENNETT

Frieda Bennett, loving wife, mother, grandma and great- grandma went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ and her past loved ones on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, in Sunnyside, after living a fruitful and joyous 95 years.

Frieda was born in a sod house on March 8, 1917 at the family farm in Elgin, N.D.

She attended school in a simple one room school house until the eighth grade. She was the fourth living child of 10 siblings all of whom have preceded her in death; brothers, Adolph, Gottlieb, Clarence, Reinhold and Paul Roth and sisters, Louisa Hirning, Hilda Zimmerman, Elizabeth Roth, Esther Zimmerman and Ida Klein.

At the start of WW II, she moved to St. Paul, Minn., where Frieda worked as a housekeeper and later for the Armour Meat Packing Co.

She met Richard Bennett and they married on June 2, 1945 in Baker City, Ore. They moved to Sunnyside, where Richard and Frieda were blessed with the birth of their only child, Georgia, on Oct. 5, 1945.

After several other moves, Frieda and Richard finally settled in Grandview in 1971. Richard preceded Frieda to heaven on Nov 30, 1988.

Frieda deeply loved her daughter Georgia Bennett Dahlke and her son-in-law, Robert Dahlke; her grandchildren: Richard Dahlke, Lena (Dahlke) (Paul) Gill and Matthew Dahlke; and her great-grandson, Logan Gill.

Frieda lived a fiercely independent life but she was generous with her time and money and always took time for the ones she loved.

She particularly enjoyed fishing and had a gift for gardening. She took pride in making items from scratch, like homemade noodles, dinner rolls and German sausage. She insisted on roasting the holiday turkeys every year and was vital in the annual family canning sessions.

She valued her friends and enjoyed her weekly time at the Grandview Senior Center.

You are welcomed to the viewing and visitation being held on Thursday, June 21, 2012, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside.
