Middle school students won't see uniform policy this year

GRANDVIEW - Last week a 19-member committee met to discuss a Grandview Middle School uniform policy.

The committee was formed after several community-wide meetings and community surveys were conducted to get a general consensus on the issue of implementing a dress code policy at the middle school, requiring uniforms to be worn during the school day.

The committee members were chosen from among applications submitted by teachers, parents and community members. The group includes Shelli Dion, Sunshine Gomez, Lourdes Magana, Betsy Ledesma, Edie M. Graf, Felicitas Valencia, Francisco Sanchez, Aguedita Gonzales, Taylor Ebbelaar, Serapia Godinez, Delia Orduno, Maria Jaime, Michelle Mendoza, Paul Voorhees, Sylvia Ledesma, Griselda Mendoza, Amanda Anderson, Brent Smasne and Jackie Mendoza.

The group met last week, Wednesday, June 20. During that meeting, the group decided to table all further discussions until Monday, Aug. 27. According to Superintendent Kevin Chase, the meetings were tabled due to summer vacation plans of committee members. Additional meetings will take place every Monday evening in August and September.

In addition, any implementation of a new dress code policy at the middle school will not take place until the fall of 2013.
