The city of Sunnyside was among the many cities across the state of Washington to receive $50,000 in grant funding from the Department of Ecology this month.
The DOE awarded a total of $8.9 million to cities that have phase II stormwater permits. Another $2.2 million was awarded to 12 municipalities for competitive grants.
Sunnyside was not among those to receive a competitive grant, but Public Works Supervisor Shane Fisher said the $50,000 will help the city continue bolstering its infrastructure.
He said Sunnyside will continue with in-house projects and could utilize the funds for consultants, if needed.
"We have no hard plans yet on how the money will be spent," said Fisher.
