Samuel Rios Sr., 77, of Mabton passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2012.

Samuel was born July 11, 1934 in Edinburg, Texas to Ramon and Soledad (Ramirez) Rios.

Samuel moved with his family to the Yakima Valley and as a young man he met and fell in love with Elodia Martinez, the two were married in Toppenish, and made their home in Mabton.

Samuel worked for various farms throughout the Lower Valley including Haas Ranch, Smasne Farms and Sam Nishi Farms.

Samuel enjoyed fishing, hunting, family barbeques, attending grandchildren's sporting events and hanging out with his life-long friends. He also loved and cherished spending time with his family. Samuel was also an avid Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Mariners fan.

He was a long time member of the Catholic Church.

Samuel is survived by his sons, Sam (Gloria) Rios Jr. and Eddie Rios of Granger; his daughter, Norma Jean Rios of Sunnyside; his grandchildren, Sonia, Sammy, Sabrina, Tina, Sal, Amanda, E.J., Samantha and Stacey; 14 great- grandchildren; his brothers, Carlos (Tila) Rios of Walla Walla, Roy Rios of College Place, Ramon (Sheila) Rios of Kennewick: and a sister, Bea Rios of Kennewick.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Elodia Rios; a sister-in-law, Chala Rios; and one nephew, Roy Rios Jr.

Viewing and visitation will be held Monday, March 12, 2012, from 2 to 8 p.m., with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grandview, with burial to follow at Mabton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, "love" gifts can be made to the Rios family.
