Sunnyside's Little Grapplers wrestling club, in the midst of a rebuilding year with approximately 75 percent of the youngsters new to the sport this season, is starting to find some success on the mats.
At the Highland tournament in Cowiche the first Saturday of March, three of the Sunnyside club members returned home with titles. The champions included Rey Palomarez (5/6-years-olds), and Abraham Arreola and Alan Ochoa (9/10-year-olds).
Three Little Grapplers earned runner-up finishes at the Highland tourney...Zeke Villalobos and Carmelo Reyes (5/6-year-olds), and Marcos Velasquez (7/8-year-olds).
The Sunnyside mighty-mites did even better at a wrestling tournament in Granger recently. Claiming top honors in their respective weight brackets were Rey Palomarez (5/6-year-olds), Alan Ochoa and Joseph Paleyo (9/10-year-olds), and Daniel Cardenas and Victor Ochoa (11/12-year-olds).
Second-place finishers for the Little Grapplers at Granger included Carmelo Reyes and Zeke Villalobos (5/6-year-olds), Riley Guerrero (7/8-year-olds), and Rocky Rangel and Guillermo Reyes (9/10-year-olds).
The Sunnyside wrestling club is scheduled to compete at a tournament in Waitsburg this coming Saturday.
