Suspect in custody on weapon charge

Sunnyside police this morning (Wednesday) at approximately 3:30 a.m. placed in custody an individual after receiving a report of a weapons offense in the area of South 11th Street and East Decatur Avenue.

Police officials say Pedro Barron, 36, was located with what appeared to be a bicycle chained wrapped for use as a weapon.

Requested charges against Barron include possession of drug paraphernalia, bicycle light violation and possession of a dangerous weapon.

Officers have also since yesterday investigated a theft report, as well as a reported burglary.

A citizen yesterday told police items were stolen from a trailer in the 300 block of South Fifth Street belonging to his deceased father. The burglary was discovered by relatives.

A bicycle was today reported missing from a shed in the 100 block of East Maple Way.

Sunnyside police have also since yesterday responded to two automatic alarms, four animal complaints, a reported assault, two juvenile problems, a loud music call, a traffic stop and a vandalism report.

Officers, too, provided four agency assists, fielded an informational call and provided two welfare checks.
