GRANDVIEW - Prosser senior Marlee Rees was a one-man, check that, one-girl wrecking crew at Tuesday's Grandview Track & Field Invitational.
Rees won both the 100-meter dash and the long jump events, and anchored the Lady Mustangs' winning 4x100 relay squad.
Along with victories from teammates Kolby Childers (800m), Rylee Suhadolnik (3000m), Ava Tolcacher (high jump) and Mackenzie Davis (pole vault), Rees and the Lady Mustangs handily captured the girls team title. Prosser tallied an invite-best 152 points, 60 more than Zillah and LaSalle, which tied for second-place honors with 90 points each.
Host Grandview placed sixth in the girls team standings with 57 points. Mabton was ninth with 12 points from the 11-school field.
The Lady Greyhounds, despite finishing in the middle of the pack, received a stellar performance from freshman Morgan Mendoza. The underclassman ran away from the 10-girl field in the 1500-meter race. Mendoza hit the finish line in 6:01.18. The closest runner to her was Zillah junior Alexis Medelez, who clocked a time of 6:07.75.
Mendoza, too, found a bit of success in the 800m event. She placed sixth from among the 10 competitors with a time of 2:59.06, although her clocking was well off the winning pace of 2:31.62, set by Childers from Prosser.
Grandview's girls also got a pair of third-place efforts from Marlen Rojas-Gonzalez and Miranda Ebbelaar.
Rojas-Gonzalez, a freshman, set a clocking of 13:44 in the 3000-meter-run. Danielle McKiernan of Prosser beat her to the finish line by two seconds for runner-up honors, with Prosser's Suhadolnik winning the long-distance run in a time of 13:01.
Ebbelaar, a sophomore, was third in the high jump with a leap of 4 feet-6 inches. The top two jumps of 4-10 and 4-8 were recorded by Prosser's Tolcacher and Emily Seaman of Zillah, respectively.
The short-handed Mabton girls squad came away with one victory at Tuesday's invite, that recorded by senior Cassandra Madrigal. Competing in the triple jump, Madrigal was more than four feet better than the second-place finisher with a winning jump of 36 feet-3.25 inches.
