Prosser boys dust competition at Grandview track invitational

GRANDVIEW - Spearheaded by senior Riley Haringa's two victories in the triple jump and 110-meter hurdles, Prosser ran off with the boys team title at this past Tuesday's Grandview Track & Field Invitational.

The Mustangs, who also got first-place finishes from Sterling Clark (100m), Bradley Buttars (3000m), Wade French (high jump), Isaac Anderson (pole vault) and from their 4x100 relay squad, tallied an invite-best 154 points.

Zillah - which earned two relay victories and got a victory from Austin Gagnon in the shot put - tied with Riverside Christian for second-place honors in the boys team standings with 95 points apiece. Riverside Christian's Dusty Bender, Adam Soelberg and Fernando Valencia were victorious in the 1500m, 300m hurdles and javelin, respectively.

The host Greyhounds finished on Zillah and Riverside Christian's heels, placing fourth with 75 points from the 11-school field.

Grandview's top individual performance on the day in the boys meet came from senior Daniel Lara. He was the runner-up in the triple jump, recording a leap of 37 feet-8 and a quarter inches. The winner, Prosser's Haringa, had the best jump at 38-2.5.

Grandview sophomore Jose Velazquez also made his presence felt on Tuesday, posting a pair of third-place finishes. In the 1500-meter mid-distance running event, he set a clocking of 4:52.12, roughly six and a third seconds back of the winner, Riverside Christian's Bender. Velazquez also was third in the 3000-meter run in a time of 10:48.50. Buttars of Prosser set the winning mark with a clocking of 10:26.91.

The only other Grandview boys to nab top-three finishes were sophomores Angel Abarca and Andy Rodriguez, who tied for third in the pole vault with leaps of 7-0.

Mabton's boys, who placed ninth with 30 team points, were led by junior Adrian Gutierrez. He scored runner-up placings in the discus and javelin. With the platter, he got it to fly a distance of 116-10. Braydon Ross of Goldendale was first in the discus with a throw of 136-7.
