Soroptimist club now taking orders from Sunnyside residents for petunia, geranium plants

It won't be long before it's time for local gardeners to get those geranium and petunia plants into the ground.

As tradition dictates here in the Sunnyside area, many of those flowering plants are provided by the Lower Valley Soroptimist International Club.

Members of the women's club are taking orders now for their annual flower sale. The geraniums and petunias are being sold at a price of $35 per flat, each of which contains 18 plants. The orders can include mixed varieties and colors.

Single plants can also be ordered, at a cost of $2.

The deadline to submit a flower order is Friday, April 27. Orders, which must be prepaid, should be phoned in to Barbara Miller (509-837-4093).

The geranium and petunia plants will be available for pick-up on Saturday, May 5, at Sunnyside's Banner Bank, from 9 to 11 a.m. All flower orders must be picked up during this time.

Proceeds netted from the annual plant sale are used by the Lower Valley Soroptimist Club to fund college scholarships, as well as to provide financial help to the Lower Valley Hospice agency and the Lower Valley Crisis & Support Center. Some of the proceeds are also used to promote breast cancer awareness.
