Sunnyside police out of alarm business

After a short discussion this past Monday, the Sunnyside City Council voted unanimously to cease providing alarm monitoring services through the police department.

Council member Nick Paulakis described his behind-the-scenes visit to the police dispatcher room and suggested that if the city continue the service, many improvements would be necessary.

Council member Theresa Hancock expressed concern about the effective date of the termination of service and was assured by Deputy Chief Phil Schenk that customers would be given time to find a new alarm service provider.

The termination of service applies only to the monitoring service and not to the police response to alarms.
