MOXEE - The Red Devils defeated Grandview 4-1 at yesterday's match held at East Valley High School, but the Greyhounds' top doubles team continued its success.
Grandview's No. 1 doubles team of Stevan Ramirez and Abel Pasillas once again demonstrated their dominance by defeating Drew Schershligt and Nathan Campos of East Valley in two sets, 6-3, 6-0.
"Once again, Stevan and Abel pull out a win for Greyhound tennis," said Coach Ronda Penwell. "With this win (7-3), they have further established themselves as one of the top teams in the district. Thursday's league match against Wapato will be an important one for them to win in order to secure a high seed for the District tournament."
The Greyhounds' No. 2 doubles team of Fernando Serna and Juan Sanchez didn't fare as well, losing twin sets of 6-1 to Red Devils Stephen Aiken and Luca Weyranch.
Grandview's third doubles team, Joel Pulido and Arthur Alcazar, fought for games but ultimately lost in two sets, 6-2, 6-3 to Garrett Rynes and Ryan Rodriguez of East Valley.
The Grandview singles players had no success in their matches. Both players were blanked in two sets by identical 6-0 scores. Greyhound Marcus Morales was defeated by Cameron Snyder of East Valley while Grandview No. 2 singles player Jose Ramos lost to Red Devil Amrit Khinda.
