Who doesn't remember the White Rabbit in Alice in Wonderland exclaiming, "I'm late for a very important date?"
Sometimes life can feel that way and we find ourselves running around so quickly to meet the appointments on our calendar that we fail to see the little details in our lives.
I know I have been feeling rather hurried lately and have missed a few moments in the lives of my family because my schedule has been terribly busy.
I just hope they can forgive me for not being able to attend the talent show during which my eldest son and his best friend performed a dance routine, winning first place honors.
I hope my husband forgives me for all those nights he made a meal and I was unable to enjoy it until much later.
Days and weeks that have me running around like the White Rabbit, though, make me appreciate the time I can spend with my family. I appreciate being afforded the opportunity to relax and enjoy my life.
So, when someone asks if I am going to attend some special event, I typically respond by telling them I will not. I always feel guilty doing this, but I am not the type who ALWAYS must be busy.
In fact, I am the type of person who likes to sit outside for a little while and enjoy the chatter of the squirrels and the birds. I like to "veg" when I can get away with it.
I salute those who can handle the hectic, always hurried schedules some choose to have.
But, that's not the life for me. I want to stop, smell the roses and linger a while. I like to take the time to appreciate my surroundings and the people in my life without chaos.
Doing this helps me to remember the important details like family and friends' special celebrations.
Good luck to all of you who enjoy being the White Rabbit. I think I would rather be more like the Cheshire Cat.
