Sportsfest action returns to Prosser early in June

PROSSER - Hoops and tennis racquets will be the main fare as Prosser's Sportsfest takes place the weekend of June 9-10. The event, sponsored by the Prosser Chamber of Commerce, consists of three separate tournaments...3-on-3 adult basketball, boys and girls 3-on-3 basketball and new this year, doubles tennis for men and women.

The basketball tournament, played on 7th Street and Meade Avenue, offers play for adults in both 6 foot & under and 6 foot & over divisions. Youth basketball for girls and boys is offered in the following divisions: 1st & 2nd, 3rd & 4th, 5th & 6th, and 7th & 8th grades. Age divisions are determined by the school year just completed.

Awards will be presented to first through third-place finishing teams in each division. The entry fee per basketball team is $70. Registration forms can be picked up at the Prosser Chamber of Commerce office at 1230 Bennett Ave. in Prosser or printed out online at The deadline to enter is June 6. The doubles tennis tournament will be held on both the high school courts and E.J. Miller Park courts. There will be men's doubles and women's doubles tournaments ages 16 & up. The entry fee per tennis teams is $30.

"This long standing event brings visitors to our community and provides families and youth with a positive, fun-filled activity" said Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jim Milne. "We look forward to many more years of fun and success."

3-on-3 youth basketball tournament officials are looking for court monitors, 16 and older, to referee the games. These are paid positions and interested parties need to call the Chamber at 786-3177 to sign up.
