The Port of Sunnyside is responsible for more than 20 manholes and is nearly finished relining or replacing nearly half of them.
That's according to Port of Sunnyside Engineer Bob Farrell.
This past Monday, he told the Port of Sunnyside commissioners there is an expected lifespan of 100 years for the new manhole liners and the company installing them provides a 10-year warranty.
"Most warranties are for one year, maximum," said Farrell.
The steps in three of the manholes were also replaced due to corrosion. The new steps are made of polypropylene and are not subject to corrosion.
Port of Sunnyside Director Amber Hansen told the commissioners the costs associated for repairing and replacing the manholes are included in the port's capital improvement fund.
