Steven James Schut, 59, of Naches and a former Sunnyside resident, passed away suddenly of a heart attack on Sunday, May 20, 2012, in Kennewick.
He graduated from Sunnyside High School in 1971. During those years he played football and wrestled and was voted "Best Looking" his senior year.
Steve started work with the City of Sunnyside in 1976. He continually recertified in his career as the water department supervisor. He retired in 2009 after 33 years.
Steve enjoyed being outdoors bird hunting, fishing, motorcycling and keeping his yard immaculate, watching the Mariners, bull riding and car racing.
On Sunday mornings you would have to travel to Morgan Lake to find Steve and his boys hunting whatever bird was in season.
He was a country boy who grew up with excellent work ethics and could be counted on and would always stop to help anyone in need.
Steve is survived by his two sons, TSgt. Christian J. (TSgt. Gladis) Schut and SSgt. Matthew J. Schut; his mother, Phyllis Schut; sisters, Sandra and Sherry (Joe) Gonzalez; several nieces and nephews; and ex-wife Pauline.
He was preceded in death by his father, James W. Schut.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 26, 2012, at 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 2001 W. Kennewick Avenue in Kennewick.
