This weekend, we mark the unofficial start of summer with the Memorial Day holiday.
On one hand I am anxious for the summer months to begin.
Summer is always particularly busy for me as my children participate on the Grandview Rotary swim team. That means at least once a week the team travels out of town and I get to figure out whether or not I will be able to travel with them.
Sometimes it can't be helped, but I have work to do on the evening of a swim meet.
What I enjoy most about summer is all the activities, watching youngsters enjoy themselves at the local parks and attending events where barbecued meats are on the menu.
I also enjoy the many days of sunshine.
Summer brings about a different pace at the Daily Sun News. We may not have all the high school sports coverage, but with two swim teams and the slow pitch softball league, we are kept plenty busy.
Also, the parks and rec programs and various organizations keep us busy covering their events.
This summer will be bittersweet for me, however. Summer always means another school year has passed and my children are another year older.
Although I enjoy watching them grow up, I wish they could just stay little. Brendon will be between his freshman and sophomore year. Caitlin will be advancing from elementary school to middle school, and Danny will be preparing for the fourth grade (probably with the help of summer school).
Summer is a great time of year, but it always means time is passing me by.
That's just one more reason to enjoy it while it lasts.
