The Sunnyside Ministerial Association will honor the Sunnyside and Mabton high schools class of 2012 with a Baccalaureate service on Thursday, June 7, at 7 p.m.
The special service, says Rev. Katie Haney, is an opportunity to honor the graduating class of 2012 in a worship service.
In addition to graduates, it is a way for the classmates to come together to celebrate their parents, their personal accomplishments and to thank God for His continued guidance throughout their lives, said Haney.
"It's also a way to acknowledge God will guide them into the future," said Haney.
She said Rev. Katrina Walther of Sunnyside's Our Saviour's Lutheran Church will be the featured speaker.
"Dr. Chuck Salina will charge the graduates as they go out into the world," Haney said of the other special guest speaker to address the graduates at the Baccalaureate service.
A special musical performance will be presented by CitiesOutcry, and the graduates will have an opportunity to read poetry, give vocal performances and perform interpretive dance routines.
"There will be a prayer for the graduates and scripture will be read," said Haney, adding those attending the service will also perform worship and praise songs as a community.
The class of 2012 Baccalaureate will be staged in the Sunnyside High School auditorium at 7 p.m. on June 7.
It is a free event and the community is invited to attend.
