Police suspect child abuse

Medical professionals at Sunnyside Community Hospital yesterday (Tuesday) alerted police after a 4-month-old infant was rushed to Harborview Medical Center for injuries believed to be caused by child abuse.

The mother of the child is Elisa Lopez. However, police have not identified any suspects in the case.

The case is under investigation and further details were not available as of press time.

Sunnyside police have also since yesterday investigated two thefts and a burglary.

A resident in the 900 block of South 13th Street reported finding a home there burglarized. Items stolen were not detailed.

Items from vehicles belonging to a resident living in the 400 block of Columbia Avenue were yesterday reported stolen, and a driver's license was reported stolen while a citizen was at South Hill Park.

Officers have also since yesterday responded to four automatic alarms, three animal complaints, a reported assault, a report of disorderly conduct, a domestic violence call, a graffiti report, a harassment complaint, two juvenile problems, four suspicious activity calls, six traffic stops and three vandalism reports.

Police, too, provided two welfare checks, an agency assist and a citizen assist, as well as fielded four informational calls and served three arrest warrants.
