MABTON - More than a year ago the 1.5 acre lot in Mabton was barren and frankly a little dusty.
After 32 first-time homeowners and the surrounding Mabton community pitched in, the new Mabton community park has been cleaned up, excavated and graded. The park is also adorned with volleyball and tetherball courts, picnic shelter slabs and a youth soccer field. Last March the community also rolled up their collaborative sleeves to lay sod, transforming the dirt lot into an actual green grass park.
Catholic Charities Housing Services is inviting the local community to share in the dedication and ribbon-cutting celebration of the newly completed New Life homes in Mabton along with the community park.
To honor the completion of the housing development and park and the volunteers and families, Bishop Joseph Tyson will be delivering a formal blessing over the new homes and park.
The dedication celebration is set to take place at the park, located at 813 Sevilla Street in Mabton, on Friday, June 8, from 3 to 6 p.m.
In addition to the celebration and dedication, attendees will also enjoy music, food and refreshments.
