Tragedy strikes Sunnyside family yesterday morning

The cause of death of a five-month old infant in Sunnyside is currently being investigated by the county coroner.

Det. Sgt. John Chumley stressed, however, that foul play is not suspected, but the results of the tests completed by the coroner's office will help determine whether the infant died of natural causes or an accident.

Yesterday morning (Thursday) just before 7:30 a.m. police and paramedics were called to a home in the 800 block of Upland Drive for a report of an unresponsive infant.

The child, who lived at the home, was pronounced dead after medical personnel administered CPR.

Officers at the scene said they did not observe anything out of the ordinary.

The Yakima County Coroner's Office yesterday conducted a preliminary autopsy and are awaiting the result of additional tests to determine the cause of the child's death.
