Adela Guzman Gomez, 99, a longtime Sunnyside resident, went to be in the arms of her Savior on Nov. 10, 2012.
Adela was born July 3, 1913 in Monterrey, N.L. Mexico.
She married the love of her life Hilario Gomez. Before moving to the Yakima Valley in the 1950s, they together made their way to McAllen, Texas and met up with the family to make the journey north.
Adela and Hilario made their way working in Farmersville, Calif. for several years working for many different ranches and farms. They also lived and worked in Maryland.
Adela moved into the senior housing complex 35 years ago and was one of the first to receive an apartment in the complex, where she lived her long life as a homemaker. She was an excellent cook. Adela enjoyed cooking fresh breads, tamales and traditional meals, sharing her cooking with everyone. She was a devoted member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sunnyside.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Bertha Palominos, Frances Guzman, Estevan Guzman, Fred Guzman; and many great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by both her parents; her husband; five brothers, Raymundo, Sesario, Julian, Anecleto and Agapito; and three sisters, Lupe, Anita and Monica.
We would like to give a special thank you to her caregiver, Zoila Villa for the years she took care of Tia Adela.
Tia Adela over the years had many special friends that she enjoyed spending time with.
Thank you to Lower Valley Hospice for your wonderful care.
