Dordt lands SCHS recruit

SIOUX CENTER, IOWA - Brandon Broersma, a senior at Sunnyside Christian High School, has announced his intentions to attend Dordt College and join the Defender men's basketball program.

Broersma averaged 14.3 points per game as a junior at SCHS last season, with 10.1 rebounds and 5.6 blocks per contest.

The 6'7" forward was also named to the 1B Greater Columbia League all-conference team as a junior, and claimed all-tournament team honors at the 1B State tournament last spring, when Sunnyside Christian finished fourth. He also last season was afforded all-state honors by the Associated Press.

Broersma was also on Sunnyside Christian's boys basketball teams when they advanced to the State tournaments in 2010 and 2011.

The son of Fred and Julie Broersma, he plans to study pre-med at Dordt College, which is located in Sioux Center, Iowa and is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC).

He will be joining former Sunnyside Christian teammate Trevor Wagenaar in Sioux Center, who was recruited by Dordt College and is playing this winter for the men's basketball team as a freshman.
