The Green Olive Café in Sunnyside is having its second annual non-perishable food drive.
The restaurant is collecting non-perishable food items for those in the community who need a little extra help during the winter season.
Now through Sunday, Dec. 23, customers who bring in a minimum of two non-perishable food items to donate will have the chance to draw from a Christmas box that contains prizes such as a $10 gift card, $5 gift card, free dessert, free appetizer and many other prizes.
Last year Green Olive was able to collect 155 non-perishable food items for the Sunnyside Ministerial Food Bank located at Eighth Street and Decatur Avenue in Sunnyside. The goal is to beat last year's number and help many more families in the Sunnyside area.
Although Green Olive hopes to help many families through the food drive, the restaurant owners say they will consider the food drive a success if the effort is able to help just one family in need.
All items collected at Green Olive Café will be taken to local food banks to distribute to those in need in the community.
Examples of food items that can be accepted are: canned foods (soup, beans, fruits, vegetable, meats and peanut butter), dried foods (cereal, oatmeal, crackers, granola bars, rice, pasta, fruit and beans) and bottled juices.
