Abigail Medina Casas, 71, of Sunnyside went into the loving arms of our heavenly Father on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, peacefully surrounded by her family.

She was born July 1, 1941 in Acambaro, Guanajuato, Mexico.

In 1963 she and her former husband, Celso Casas, made their home in Sunnyside, where they began working for Newhouse Farms. In 1970 she started work at Pacific Coast Nursery and Independent Foods, where she worked for several years and developed many friendships.

She enjoyed starting her mornings with a cup of coffee at McDonalds. She also enjoyed the outdoors, cooking and was fond of animals.

Abigail was survived by her longtime companion, Tony Castaneda of Sunnyside; her daughter, Yolanda (Rick) Bissonette of Sunnyside; her son, Jose Luis (Yolanda) Casas of Sunnyside and Jennifer (Arturo) Balderas of Kennewick, their children, Damian and Shayla; Isabelle Casas of Atlanta, Ga., her children Octavian, Xavier and Aaliyah; Xochil, and Antonio Mercado of Toppenish; Vanessa (Lucas) Alanis of Sunnyside, their children Julian, Zander, Aidan and Phoenix; Samantha Casas of Sunnyside; Jeffery (Jerica) Hornbarger of Sunnyside, their children JB and Juilyn; Ashley and Jose Jr. Casas of Sunnyside; her brothers, Jesus Medina of Wheatland, Calif. and Ismael Medina of Nuevo, Laredo, Mexico; her sisters, Ester Medina of San Antonio, Texas and Guadalupe, Celia and Oliva of Acambaro, Guanajuato, Mexico; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; former husband, Celso Casas; and grandson, Mark Anthony Casas.

Viewing and visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, from 1 to 8 p.m., with celebration services of her life to be held at 6 p.m. at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Sunnyside.
