Ozuna convicted of witness intimidation

YAKIMA - Adrian Bentura Ozuna, 26, of Sunnyside was in 2009 convicted of robbery, attempting to elude police and second degree assault.

It was during his trial that he attempted to intimidate a witness testifying against him, according to prosecutors.

Last Friday, a jury convicted him for that crime, as well as two aggravating gang factors.

Although Ozuna is serving nearly 11 years in prison for the crimes for which he was convicted in 2009, he now faces an additional 10 years for last Friday's conviction.

The original conviction stems from a 2008 case during which he led police on a high-speed pursuit after stealing a vehicle and displaying a firearm. At one point in the pursuit, Ozuna tried to assault a police officer with the vehicle.

He is also serving time for taking a motor vehicle without permission, residential burglary, felony drug charges and a drive-by shooting.

Prosecutors say a sentencing date for the witness intimidation conviction is set for Oct. 16.
