Black Rock Creek seniors earn six-pack

KENNEWICK - Six and counting! That's how many Mid-Columbia Senior Golf Tour titles the Black Rock Creek Golf Course team has won in the past six years.

The sixth consecutive championship for Black Rock Creek was secured last Wednesday at the 12th and final stop on the 2012 tour. The Sunnyside-area golfers finished third at last week's competition, held at the par-65 Tri-City Country Club in Kennewick. A total of 115 golfers representing 10 different courses competed last Wednesday.

The final 2012 standings show that Black Rock Creek tallied 168.5 points in the 12 competitions staged this year. All told, the local seniors notched three first-place finishes, seven runner-up performances and two third-place efforts at the 12 tour stops. This year's runners-up in the tour standings, with 161 team points, was the Columbia Point Golf Course squad. The Pendleton Country Club finished a distant third with 147 team points.

Last week at the Tri-City Country Club, Akira Nozaka paced Black Rock Creek to its third-place finish at the last stop on the tour. He carded a 6-over-par 71, which proved to be the second lowest round from the 115-golfer field.

Also scoring well for the Lower Yakima Valley team were Bob Barker with an 82, and Bob Lambert and Dennis Petrea with identical 84's. One shot back at 85 was teammate Tom Diener.
