Lady Pirates keep winning

BICKLETON - Yesterday's win against the Mabton JV volleyball squad has hopefully prepared the Bickleton Lady Pirates varsity for a tough week ahead.

The Lady Pirates notched a win over the Lady Vikings JV squad in three straight games, 25-12, 25-18 and 25-16.

This is Bickleton's second win over the Mabton junior varsity squad this season, and Coach Katie Leuthauser says she hopes last night's win has given the Bickleton team enough energy to keep on winning this week.

At yesterday's home match, Lady Pirate Haley Goodnight went 20-for-20 at the service line and provided six assists. Also serving up a perfect record at the service line was Syndie Obanion (15-for-15).

Bickleton's Jamie Venema slammed 15 unreturnable spikes, and offered up three blocks.

The Lady Pirates have only lost one match this season, against Trout Lake-Glenwood. Tonight, Bickleton hopes its home-court advantage will be enough to avenge the earlier loss to TLG.

Later this week, the Lady Pirates will also host another notoriously tough team, says Leuthauser. The undefeated Sunnyside Christian Lady Knights will come to Bickleton this Thursday, Oct. 11.

"(Both teams) are definitely beatable, we just have to show up," Leuthauser said.
