Greyhound harriers achieve personal bests

SOAP LAKE - Despite coming in last on the scoreboard, the Grandview High School harriers enjoyed the nice weather while notching personal-best times during their respective races.

With 28 runners from Ephrata, Grandview, Othello and Prosser in the 5,000-meter varsity race yesterday in Soap Lake, Bradley Buttars of Prosser notched first place honors with a time of 16:45.

Grandview runners at yesterday's meet who notched personal-best times included Alex Soberanes (18:23), Carlos Granados (18:32), Fernando Serna (20.58) and Juan Sanchez (22.37).

Grandview JV runners Juan Tzib (22:03) and Jesus Avalos (22:34) also earned personal-best times in the 50-runner junior varsity competition.

In the girls race Ephrata's Hannah Gunderson earned top honors, crossing the finish line in 20:43, among the 23 competitors.

Grandview sophomore Marlen Rojas-Gonzales, though finishing in 17th place, notched a personal-best time of 24:40, along with last-place teammate Keanna Maki, who also notched a personal-best time of 32:07.

The Greyhounds will next compete at Othello against East Valley and Selah on Thursday, Oct. 18.
