BICKLETON - A home court advantage wasn't enough for the Bickleton Lady Pirates to fend off visiting Sunnyside Christian High School.
The undefeated Lady Knights knocked the match out of the park yesterday, winning in three straight games (25-13, 25-12, 25-18).
Lady Knights Coach Stephanie Darlymple attributes last night's win over Bickleton to the team's controlled passing and excellent serving.
"We also played very aggressive at the net with Annie, Kate, Brittany and Stormee all getting a good amount of kills," she added.
Sunnyside Christian's Annie Brouwer (7-for-7 serving) knocked down five unreturnable spikes on the night. Also contributing to the win for Sunnyside Christian was Stormee Van Belle's seven kills. Van Belle also went 10-for-12 at the service line.
Also notching a near-perfect performance on the night was Sunnyside Christian's Alexandra Newhouse, who went 18-for-19 at the service line, provided seven perfect passes and reached for five digs.
Lady Knight Brittany Broersma provided six kills and six perfect passes. Sunnyside Christian's Kate Newhouse also provided a perfect serving record, 17-for-17, along with six kills and eight perfect passes.
But unsung heroes like Danika DeGroot (11-for-12 serving) are what made the match a successful team win for the Lady Knights. DeGroot provided a whopping 17 assists for her teammates in the collective three-game win.
Bickleton Coach Katie Leuthauser was unavailable to provide stats before press time today, but the Lady Pirates (4-3, 6-3 overall) are scheduled to host Klickitat next Tuesday, Oct. 16.
An originally scheduled match for Sunnyside Christian (6-0, 10-0 overall) against Connell, Oct. 15, has been cancelled.
The Lady Knights next compete at Lyle on Tuesday, Oct. 16.
