A driver safety course sponsored by the American Association of Retired Persons will be held in Sunnyside on Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 5-6.
The two-day class is geared for those 50 years of age and older who are interested in refreshing their driving skills. Seniors who successfully complete the eight hours of instruction may be eligible to have their automobile insurance rates reduced.
The class will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each of the two days at Sunnyside's Presbyterian Church, located at 737 S. 16th St. Class fees are set at $12 for AARP members, $14 for those who aren't a member of the retired persons association. Those interested in signing up for the Nov. 5-6 class should contact Eroll Miles at 837-2690 or 840-9737.
Military veterans, said Miles, may qualify to enroll in the two-day class for free.
The topics to be addressed during the coursework will include reviewing safety procedures, defensive driving techniques and exploring age-related changes in terms of operating a motor vehicle. Instructions will also be provided on how seniors can compensate for age-related changes so they can operate their vehicles for a longer period of time.
