Loss drops Bickleton to 4-4 in league play

KLICKITAT - The Bickleton Lady Pirates were hoping to repeat a win earlier in the season against Klickitat. But due to illness and not having a home-court advantage, their hopes were lost in three straight games.

The Lady Pirates were down one teammate yesterday, a valuable setter for the Bickleton volleyball squad. Bickleton Coach Katie Leuthauser says the team had a rough time adjusting to one less setter for the team, resulting in three-straight losses to Klickitat, 25-19, 25-13 and 25-16.

Though trying to adjust to the lack of teammate Amanda McBride, Bickleton's Haley Goodnight was still able to fly 10 of her 12 serves over the net. She also provided two assists. Lady Pirate Jamie Venema was able to fire three unreturnable spikes, had two blocks and was 9-for-11 at the service line.

Leuthauser says the team did well with their serves, including Sidney Obanion who went 11-for-12, but they didn't have much time adjusting to McBride's absence.

"We were really missing her last night," Leuthauser added.

The Bickleton Lady Pirates (4-4, 6-4 overall) next compete at Lyle this Thursday, Oct. 18.

"Hopefully Amanda (McBride) will be back and we can get back into the swing of things this week," Leuthauser said.
