GRANDVIEW - The annual Yakima Valley Fair and Rodeo in Grandview wouldn't be possible without the foundation's annual fundraisers and private donations.
For the fifth consecutive year, the Foundation for the Yakima Valley Fair and Rodeo is holding its dinner and auction fundraiser.
The Thursday, Nov. 15, event is set to begin at 5 p.m. with a silent auction and social hour at Blessed Sacrament Church's McDonald Hall in Grandview.
The event will proceed with dinner served at 6:30 p.m. After the meal, the family of the year will be announced. Foundation board members say this year's family of the year has been involved with the fair since 1913, and greatly deserves this prestigious honor.
Five items are also slated to be up for the live auction that evening.
Over the past four years at this dinner, along with various private donors, the foundation has been able to make numerous repairs and additions to the fair and rodeo grounds, including four new sections of bleachers added this past year.
Tickets for the Nov. 15 fundraiser are $50 each, or $375 for a table seating eight people. For more information or to order tickets, contact Cathy or Willard Mears at (509) 882-1898.
The Yakima Valley Fair and Rodeo Foundation also couldn't operate without its dedicated volunteers. And this year the fair board has open positions. The positions up for election include livestock; 4-H division with school and art displays; public relations; and ticket sales and gate management.
Board President Yvonne Graham says the open positions are for those wanting to head up that portion of the fair's work duties.
Election day for fair board positions is Nov. 12, at the livestock office at the Grandview fair grounds.
