GOLDENDALE - Four volleyball teams went into the 1B District playoffs at Goldendale High School this past Saturday, but only Sunnyside Christian and Klickitat advanced to Tri-District play.
The Bickleton Lady Pirates put up a good show against the Sunnyside Christian Lady Knights. Although Bickleton lost in three sets, the scores were close, 25-19, 25-20, 25-23.
The Lady Knights next rode to victory over the Klickitat Vandals in three sets, 25-19, 25-19, 25-14.
Sunnyside Christian got a rest as the Vandals defeated Trout Lake/Glenwood. Then the Lady Knights took on the Vandals for the District championship, winning again in three sets, 25-12, 25-22, 25-23.
Lady Knight Alexandra Newhouse racked up 26 perfect passes and 18 digs while schooling her opponents with a 53-for-55 performance from the service line in the three matches.

Sunnyside Christian will be playing in Rochester at the Tri-District tournament this Saturday versus the winner of the Taholah and Mary M. Knight match-up to be played tomorrow (Tuesday). Tonight (Monday), however, Sunnyside Christian will host Yakama Tribal.
On the other side of the coin, Bickleton came in fourth in the District tournament, but still managed some impressive play.
"I thought we played awesome," said Bickleton Coach Katie Leuthauser. "But it wasn't quite enough."
The Lady Pirates first lost to Sunnyside Christian, then battled Trout Lake/Glenwood. They took that match to four games after winning the first game 25-19. The Mustangs took the next three sets 25-18, 26-24, 25-14.
"(Bickleton) played all those games in a row, by the end they were getting tired," said Leuthauser.
Lady Pirate Jamie Venema went 19-for-22 from the service line with 12 kills and two blocks. She was also named player of the year for the local 1B league.
Teammate Lindsay Brown spiked the ball for 11 kills and made three blocks. Amanda McBride put in a 15-for-18 performance at the service line, while fellow Lady Pirate Haley Goodnight managed an impressive 24-for-25 performance. Sidney Obanion topped off the performance for Bickleton by going 23-for-27 in service attempts.
"They played really well," said Leuthauser of the Lady Pirates, who ended the year with an overall mark of 7-7.
