Mabton to steady high school gym

MABTON - Mabton's high school gym dates back to the 1920s and is in need of stabilizing.

To that end, the Mabton School Board last night, Monday, agreed to a $5,500 engineering contract with John Hultman of Spokane-based Hill International.

The contract calls for Hultman to design plans for shoring up the gym with a series of trusses. Under terms of the deal, work will start right away on the gym.

Superintendent Minerva Morales said the gym issue came to light when a custodian noticed that ceiling tiles were beginning to separate.
