PASCO - The 1B Sunnyside Christian Lady Knights opened the season with a victory against 2B Tri-Cities Prep last night (Tuesday) in a non-league match-up in Pasco.
"We started the match really pumped up and ready to play," said Lady Knights Coach Stephanie Dalrymple. "We got an early lead thanks to the serves of Danika DeGroot."
The Lady Knights held onto the momentum and won the first game easily, 25-13. Game two went the other way, with the Jaguars building up an early lead. The second game went to Tri-Cities Prep 25-9.
Set three was a close one as Sunnyside Christian struggled to get back to their winning ways. The Lady Knights eventually triumphed in the game 29-27.
"I was very happy with how the girls kept fighting and never gave up," said Dalrymple. "Going into set four, I told the girls we needed to keep our serves in and stay in control and we would walk away with a victory."
The final game was more Sunnyside Christian's usual style as the team led on the strength of Alexandra Newhouse's serving and stayed in control to defeat the Jaguars 25-17.
The victory was a team effort led by solid serving. Danika DeGroot went 15-for-17 in serves with nine digs and 19 assists.
Stormee Van Belle slammed in five kills and made 11 perfect passes as well as going 14-for-14 in serving.
Alexandra Newhouse, who led the team in the final game, went 16-for-20 serving in the match, digging out the ball seven times and managing 12 perfect passes.
