Yakima, Goldendale sites free on 'Museum Day'

The Yakima Valley Museum in Yakima and Maryhill Museum of Art in Goldendale will both offer free admission on Saturday, Sept. 29.

They are two of hundreds of museums nationwide that will offer free admission as part of "Museum Day," an outreach organized by Smithsonian magazine.

Free admission for one or two people is available at www.smithsonianmag.com/museumday/ticket/

The Yakima Valley Museum is located at 2105 Tieton Drive and its hours of operation during "Museum Day" are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The museum's highlights include an extensive collection of artifacts dating back to pre-historic times, as well as a neon garden and a current exhibit focusing on Japanese pioneers in the Yakima Valley.

The Maryhill Museum of Art in Goldendale is noteworthy for not only American and European oil paintings, but also for works by Rodin, famous for his sculptures.

The museum also features an outdoor sculpture exhibition. Maryhill is through November also hosting a traveling exhibit about comic books, or graphic novels.

The Maryhill Museum of Art is located at 35 Maryhill Drive and is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information call 509-773-3733.
