KLICKITAT - The Sunnyside Christian Lady Knights volleyball team came home victorious last night, after beating the Klickitat Vandals in three sets, 25-21, 25-18, 25-18.
The 1B league opening win boosted Sunnyside Christian's overall record on the young season to 4-0 in regulation-length matches.
"We struggled tonight with playing our game and aggressive volleyball," said Lady Knights Coach Stephanie Dalrymple. But, she noted, "The team was still able to fight hard to hold on to the victory."
Sunnyside Christian's Kate Newhouse delivered a 14-for-15 serving performance, spiked the ball for six kills, passed perfectly eight times and rescued the ball seven times with digs.
Teammate Stormee Van Belle was 15-for-16 from the service line with six kills and six digs.
Lady Knight Alexandra Newhouse provided seven perfect passes to her teammates and kept the action flowing with seven digs. She also went 10-for-12 serving.
Danika DeGroot was queen of saving the ball last night with 10 digs. She also provided 11 assists for the Lady Knights and had a 12-for-14 night at the service line.
Brittany Broersma turned in an 11-for-12 performance in serves with six perfect passes and six digs. SCHS teammate Annie Brouwer kept the ball alive with eight digs, managed five perfect passes and went 11-for-13 in serving.
"I was pleased with our defense and how well we were able to dig up a lot of balls," said Coach Dalrymple.
The Lady Knights will be playing at Yakama Tribal on Tuesday, Sept. 25, in a game added to the original schedule.
